It’s not a stretch to say that the Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market, held Sundays year-round, is the heartbeat of the neighborhood. There, Dupont denizens bump elbows while gently squeezing produce from vendors like Cedarbrook Farm, Cibola Farms, and Black Rock Orchard to assess its freshness (spoiler alert: it’s fresh). There are enough booths to assemble a full meal thanks to dairy products from Blue Ridge Dairy Co.; handmade pastas from Cavanna Pasta; and proteins from Evensong Farm. Only, amateur chefs aren’t the only people making the rounds. Professional cooks from nearby restaurants are also known to visit the farmers market to pick up produce. Another perk of visiting the market? It’s often a sneak peek at an up-and-coming food producers on their way to a “brick and mortar” shops. Places like Chaia, Georgetown’s vegetarian taco haven, and Timber Pizza Co. in Petworth, got their starts serving food at FRESHFARM Markets. Find the market, that’s been operating nearly twenty years, at 20th Street and Massachusetts Avenue NW.
